Custom Replacement Equipment Pins
Iron Ax manufactures custom replacement equipment pins for wheel loaders, excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, skid steers, grapples, log loaders, material handlers, mobile shears, hydraulic cylinders, attachments, recycling equipment, forestry equipment, and other heavy machinery.
A bent, broken, worn, missing, or unavailable pin can take an otherwise productive machine out of service. Dealer replacement pins may be expensive, backordered, discontinued, or available only as part of a larger assembly.
Iron Ax can manufacture a replacement pin using the original pin, mating components, equipment information, drawings, measurements, or available specifications. We can also evaluate the bushings, bores, mounts, linkage, and surrounding structure to determine whether the damaged pin is the complete problem or the result of additional wear.

Replacement Pins for Equipment That Is Down
When a critical pin bends, breaks, or disappears from an assembly, the cost of downtime can quickly become greater than the cost of the part. The equipment may be unable to lift, dig, load, clamp, steer an attachment, or safely continue operating.
Iron Ax understands that replacement pin work is often connected to an urgent equipment problem. Call us with the equipment information, approximate pin dimensions, photographs, and required timing so we can discuss the job, material availability, machining requirements, and what components should be brought to our facility.
The fastest way to begin is usually to bring the original pin and the mating components whenever practical.
Manufacturing a Pin From the Original Part
An existing pin can often provide the basic dimensions and features required to manufacture its replacement. Iron Ax can inspect and measure the original pin, including its overall length, diameter, shoulders, steps, threads, retaining grooves, cross holes, grease passages, lubrication holes, and other details.
A badly worn pin may no longer represent its original dimensions accurately. In those situations, the mating bushings, bores, retainers, linkage components, equipment information, and available specifications may also need to be evaluated before the replacement is manufactured.
When the Original Pin Is Missing or Destroyed
A replacement pin may still be possible when the original part is missing, broken into pieces, or too badly damaged to measure accurately. Iron Ax can evaluate the mating components, bores, bushings, mounting arrangement, retainers, equipment model, photographs, drawings, and available part information.
If the unavailable component involves more than a pin, learn more about how Iron Ax evaluates obsolete and hard-to-find heavy equipment parts .
For projects where the original dimensions must be established from worn parts, bushings, bores, retainers, and mating components, learn more about our Heavy Equipment Component Reverse Engineering capabilities.
The more complete the information and components provided, the better we can determine the required dimensions, fit, retention method, lubrication arrangement, and other pin features.
Pin Features We Can Machine
Material and Application Information
Equipment pins operate under different loads, speeds, environmental conditions, lubrication arrangements, and wear requirements. The correct material and configuration depend on the original design and the application in which the pin will operate.
When original drawings, specifications, material information, or manufacturer documentation are available, bring them with the part. When that information is unavailable, Iron Ax can evaluate the existing components and available equipment information before determining how the replacement should be manufactured.
Wheel Loader and Loader Linkage Pins
Wheel loaders and other loading equipment use pins throughout the loader arms, lift-cylinder mounts, tilt-cylinder mounts, bucket linkage, bell cranks, quick couplers, bucket connections, and attachment points.
Iron Ax can manufacture replacement loader pins and evaluate the related bushings, bores, linkage, structural steel, and hydraulic cylinder mounting points. When the bore or surrounding structure is damaged, we can complete the welding, fabrication, bore restoration, and line boring required for the repair.
For repairs involving the complete loader-arm, bucket-linkage, bore, pin, bushing, or structural assembly, learn more about our Wheel Loader Boom, Linkage & Pin Repair services.
Excavator, Backhoe, Boom, Stick, and Bucket Pins
Excavators and backhoes use heavy pins throughout the boom, stick, bucket, bucket linkage, hydraulic cylinder mounts, thumbs, couplers, blades, loader arms, and attachments.
Iron Ax can manufacture replacement boom pins, stick pins, bucket pins, linkage pins, cylinder pins, attachment pins, and related bushings. We can also evaluate worn or damaged bores that may have contributed to the pin failure.
Grapple, Log Loader, and Material Handler Pins
Grapples, log loaders, material handlers, and forestry equipment use pins throughout their booms, grapples, attachments, linkage, stabilizers, hydraulic cylinder mounts, and other pivot points.
These applications are exposed to frequent cycling, heavy loads, impact, twisting forces, contamination, moisture, and abrasive debris. Iron Ax can manufacture replacement pins and complete related bushing, bore, mount, welding, machining, or hydraulic cylinder repairs when required.
Mobile Shear and Recycling Equipment Pins
Mobile shears, grapples, balers, compactors, crushers, and other recycling equipment use pins in severe-duty applications involving shock loading, repeated cycling, heavy forces, metal debris, and abrasive contamination.
Iron Ax has decades of experience manufacturing and working with recycling equipment. We understand that a failed pin may be connected to worn bushings, damaged clevises, elongated bores, cracked mounts, misalignment, or structural damage elsewhere in the machine or attachment.
Hydraulic Cylinder Mounting Pins
Hydraulic cylinders rely on properly fitted pins, bushings, clevises, rod eyes, trunnions, and mounting bores to remain aligned throughout their stroke. A worn, bent, undersized, or improperly fitted pin can allow excessive movement and side-load the hydraulic cylinder.
That movement can damage seals, wear the gland, bend the rod, crack a mount, damage the rod eye, or contribute to repeated cylinder failure. Iron Ax can manufacture the replacement mounting pin and repair or manufacture the hydraulic cylinder and related mounting components under the same roof.
When a New Pin Is Not the Complete Repair
A damaged pin is often the most visible part of the failure, but it may not be the original cause. Worn bushings, loose retainers, elongated bores, misaligned linkage, cracked mounts, inadequate lubrication, bent components, or structural damage may have allowed the pin to move, wear, or bend.
Simply duplicating the damaged pin without inspecting the mating components may result in another failure. Iron Ax can evaluate the complete assembly and determine whether the bushings, bores, mounts, linkage, or surrounding steel also require attention.
If the pin failure also involves cracked mounts, damaged linkage, failed welds, or worn structural steel, learn more about our Heavy Equipment Structural Repair & Welding capabilities.
Our goal is not only to manufacture another pin. Our goal is to help identify what the equipment needs for a professional repair.
Worn Bushings and Damaged Bores
If a bushing has worn through, become loose, or moved inside the assembly, the pin may have begun contacting the supporting bore. Continued operation can cause the bore to become oversized, elongated, cracked, distorted, or misaligned.
A new pin may fit poorly or wear rapidly when installed into damaged bushings or bores. Iron Ax can manufacture replacement bushings, repair damaged steel, restore the bore area, align related mounting points, and line bore the assembly when required.
Obsolete, Backordered, and Hard-to-Find Equipment Pins
Older, imported, modified, and specialized equipment may use pins that are no longer available. A manufacturer may have discontinued the part, the dealer may have a long lead time, or the customer may be required to purchase an entire assembly to obtain one pin.
Iron Ax can evaluate the old pin, mating components, drawings, measurements, equipment information, and available specifications to determine whether a replacement can be manufactured in-house.
If the unavailable component involves more than a pin, learn more about how Iron Ax evaluates obsolete and hard-to-find heavy equipment parts .
