Heavy Equipment Pins & Bushings
Iron Ax manufactures replacement heavy equipment pins, bushings, sleeves, shafts, spacers, and related machined components for wheel loaders, excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, skid steers, log loaders, material handlers, mobile shears, grapples, attachments, recycling equipment, and other heavy machinery.
Worn pins and bushings can create excessive movement, loose linkage, poor alignment, uneven loading, damaged mounting points, elongated bores, and repeated hydraulic cylinder problems. Replacing only the pin or bushing may not correct the problem when the supporting bores, linkage, mounts, or surrounding steel are already damaged.
Iron Ax can evaluate the complete assembly, manufacture the required pins and bushings, repair worn or damaged bores, line bore related mounting points, rebuild damaged steel, and address hydraulic cylinder or structural problems connected to the same failure.

Why Heavy Equipment Pins and Bushings Wear
Heavy equipment pivot points carry substantial loads while allowing booms, loader arms, buckets, grapples, blades, attachments, hydraulic cylinders, and linkage components to move. Pins and bushings are exposed to pressure, shock loading, dirt, moisture, abrasive material, repeated movement, and changing load directions.
Wear can accelerate when lubrication is insufficient, seals are damaged, a pin is bent, a bushing becomes loose, the equipment is overloaded, or the connected components are no longer properly aligned. Once excessive clearance develops, movement between the components can begin damaging the supporting bores and surrounding steel.
Replacing a worn pin without evaluating the bushings, bores, alignment, and surrounding structure may only provide a temporary repair.
Custom Replacement Equipment Pins
A bent, broken, worn, or missing pin can take an otherwise productive machine out of service. Replacement pins from the equipment dealer may be expensive, backordered, discontinued, or available only as part of a larger assembly.
Iron Ax can manufacture replacement equipment pins using the original pin, mating components, equipment information, drawings, measurements, or available specifications. When the old pin is badly worn or broken, the connected assembly and remaining components may provide the information needed to determine the required dimensions and features.
Our machine shop can produce the shoulders, threads, grooves, retaining features, cross holes, grease passages, lubrication holes, and other machined details required for the application.
For more information about one-off pin duplication and manufacturing, visit our Custom Replacement Equipment Pins page.
Custom Heavy Equipment Bushings
Bushings provide the replaceable wear surface between an equipment pin and the supporting component. When bushings wear, crack, loosen, seize, or move inside the bore, the resulting clearance can cause the assembly to shift and place uneven loads on the pin, bore, linkage, mount, or hydraulic cylinder.
Iron Ax can manufacture replacement bushings, sleeves, and spacers for heavy equipment applications when standard parts are unavailable or when the repaired assembly requires a component made to specific dimensions.
The required dimensions, fit, material, lubrication arrangement, and surface condition depend on the equipment design and application. When available, we use the existing parts, drawings, manufacturer information, measurements, and customer requirements to determine the correct configuration.
Pins and Bushings for Loader Arms and Linkage
Wheel loaders, backhoes, skid steers, telehandlers, and other loading equipment use pins and bushings throughout the lift arms, tilt linkage, bucket linkage, bell cranks, hydraulic cylinder mounts, quick couplers, and attachment points.
Excessive wear in one pivot point can affect the alignment and movement of the entire loader assembly. Loose linkage may allow the bucket or attachment to move unevenly, place additional stress on the hydraulic cylinders, and cause damage to nearby mounts, bores, and structural components.
Iron Ax can manufacture the required pins and bushings and evaluate whether the loader arms, linkage, mounting points, or bores also require welding, fabrication, bore restoration, or line boring.
When wheel loader pin and bushing wear has also damaged the loader arms, linkage, bores, mounts, or surrounding structure, visit our Wheel Loader Boom, Linkage & Pin Repair page.
Excavator, Boom, Stick, and Bucket Pins
Excavators and backhoes use heavy pins and bushings throughout the boom, stick, bucket, linkage, hydraulic cylinder connections, thumb, coupler, and attachment mounting points. These components operate in dirt, rock, demolition debris, timber, scrap, and other abrasive environments.
Bent or worn pins can create movement that damages bushings and bores. Worn bushings can also allow side loading that contributes to bent hydraulic cylinder rods, damaged glands, seal failure, and broken mounts.
Iron Ax can manufacture replacement boom pins, stick pins, bucket pins, linkage pins, cylinder pins, and attachment pins and complete related machining or bore repairs when required.
Grapple, Log Loader, and Material Handler Pins
Grapples, log loaders, material handlers, and recycling equipment operate through frequent cycles while handling timber, scrap metal, demolition debris, bulky material, and other heavy loads. Pins and bushings in these applications are exposed to impact, twisting forces, contamination, weather, and constant movement.
Worn grapple, boom, attachment, cylinder, and linkage pins can create excessive movement throughout the assembly. Iron Ax can manufacture replacement components and repair the damaged bores, mounts, or structural steel when the wear extends beyond the pin and bushing.
Mobile Shear and Recycling Equipment Pins
Mobile shears, grapples, balers, compactors, crushers, and other recycling equipment use pins and bushings in severe-duty applications involving shock loading, heavy forces, repeated cycling, metal debris, and abrasive contamination.
Iron Ax has decades of experience manufacturing and working with recycling equipment. We understand that a pin failure may be connected to worn bushings, damaged clevises, elongated bores, cracked mounts, misalignment, or structural damage elsewhere in the machine or attachment.
Hydraulic Cylinder Mounting Pins and Bushings
Hydraulic cylinders rely on properly fitted pins, bushings, clevises, rod eyes, trunnions, and mounting bores to remain aligned throughout their stroke. Excessive movement at the mounting points can side-load the rod, damage seals, wear the gland, bend the rod, or crack the cylinder mount.
Replacing the seals in a cylinder will not correct worn mounting components that continue forcing the cylinder out of alignment. Iron Ax can repair the hydraulic cylinder and manufacture the related pins, bushings, clevises, rod eyes, mounts, and other components under the same roof.
When the Bore Is Also Worn or Damaged
A worn pin or bushing may be only part of the problem. Once a bushing becomes loose or wears through, the pin can begin contacting and damaging the supporting bore. Continued operation may cause the bore to become oversized, elongated, misaligned, cracked, or distorted.
Installing a new bushing into a damaged bore may not provide the correct fit or alignment. In those situations, Iron Ax can repair the surrounding steel, restore the bore area, align related mounting points, and line bore the assembly to the required dimensions before manufacturing or installing the replacement components.
When pin and bushing wear has also cracked, distorted, or damaged the supporting steel, Iron Ax provides heavy equipment structural repair and welding .
Pins, bushings, bores, mounts, and linkage work together as one assembly. A professional repair should consider all of them.
Common Signs of Pin and Bushing Wear
Equipment and Components We Support
Obsolete, Backordered, and Hard-to-Find Parts
Older, imported, modified, and specialized equipment may use pins and bushings that are no longer available. In other cases, a dealer may have a long lead time or require the purchase of a larger and more expensive assembly.
Iron Ax can evaluate the existing parts and mating components and determine whether a replacement pin, bushing, sleeve, spacer, or related component can be manufactured in-house.
Iron Ax can also evaluate other obsolete and hard-to-find heavy equipment parts that may require machining, fabrication, welding, or hydraulic component manufacturing.
When original pin or bushing dimensions are no longer reliable because of wear or no drawing is available, Iron Ax can evaluate the assembly through component reverse engineering .

What to Bring or Tell Us
You May Not Need to Bring the Entire Machine
Depending on the repair, customers may be able to bring only the old pin, bushing, hydraulic cylinder, loader arm, boom section, bucket, linkage assembly, grapple, attachment, clevis, mount, or other affected component.
Call Iron Ax before disassembling or transporting the equipment. Photographs and a description of the damage can help us determine which parts or assemblies should be brought to our facility.
Bring the Complete Problem to Iron Ax
A failed equipment pin is sometimes the result of a larger problem involving worn bushings, damaged bores, misaligned linkage, broken mounts, cracked steel, or hydraulic cylinder damage.
Iron Ax has machining, welding, fabrication, line boring, hydraulic cylinder repair, and equipment manufacturing capabilities under one roof. We can evaluate the complete assembly instead of simply duplicating a damaged part without considering why it failed.
