When a Hydraulic Cylinder Rod Should Be Replaced

Chrome rod damage can quickly ruin new seals and cause repeated leakage. Replacement may be needed when a rod is bent, deeply scored, pitted, rusted, cracked, broken, undersized, or damaged at the threads, retaining features, rod eye, clevis, or mounting end.

Custom Hydraulic Cylinder Rod Manufacturing

Replacement rods are not always available from the original equipment manufacturer, especially for older, imported, modified, or custom-built equipment. Iron Ax can manufacture a replacement rod using the damaged rod, complete cylinder, measurements, drawings, or available equipment information.

Our machine shop can perform the machining required for rod threads, shoulders, grooves, retaining features, clevises, rod eyes, mounts, and other attachment details. The completed rod can then be installed as part of a complete cylinder rebuild.
