Obsolete & Hard-to-Find Heavy Equipment Parts
Iron Ax repairs, duplicates, fabricates, and manufactures many obsolete and hard-to-find heavy equipment parts for construction equipment, recycling equipment, forestry machinery, mining equipment, material handlers, excavators, wheel loaders, backhoes, grapples, mobile shears, hydraulic cylinders, and other industrial equipment.
A machine can remain productive for decades even after individual replacement parts become difficult to obtain. The original manufacturer may discontinue the part, a dealer may have a long lead time, an imported component may no longer be supported, or the only available option may be purchasing an expensive complete assembly when only one component has failed.
When that happens, bring the old part, damaged assembly, drawings, photographs, measurements, or equipment information to Iron Ax. Our machining, fabrication, welding, line boring, and hydraulic cylinder capabilities allow us to evaluate whether the component can be repaired, duplicated, modified, or manufactured new.

When the OEM Part Is No Longer Available
Heavy equipment frequently remains in service much longer than the manufacturer’s replacement-parts support. A wheel loader, excavator, material handler, baler, grapple, shear, or other machine may still be valuable and productive even though one individual component has been discontinued.
When the OEM part is no longer available, Iron Ax can evaluate the original component and the surrounding assembly to determine whether repairing or manufacturing a replacement is practical.
Depending on the component, we may use the original part, mating components, equipment information, drawings, measurements, photographs, or available specifications to establish the dimensions and features required for the replacement.
A discontinued part does not automatically mean the machine has reached the end of its useful life.
Long OEM or Dealer Lead Times
A replacement part may technically still be available but have a lead time that keeps valuable equipment out of service for weeks or months. For a machine used every day in construction, recycling, forestry, mining, manufacturing, or material handling, downtime can quickly become expensive.
If the required part is suitable for in-house manufacturing or fabrication, Iron Ax can evaluate whether producing a replacement locally provides a practical alternative to waiting for the OEM component.
Availability, material requirements, complexity, machining time, heat treatment, special processes, and the condition of the existing components all affect whether manufacturing a replacement is practical. Call us with the information you have and we can evaluate the project.
When the Dealer Wants to Sell the Complete Assembly
Sometimes the failed component is relatively simple, but the manufacturer no longer sells it separately. The customer may be told that the only available repair is purchasing an entire linkage assembly, hydraulic cylinder, attachment section, bracket assembly, or other major component.
Iron Ax can evaluate the individual failed part and determine whether it can be repaired or manufactured separately. When practical, this allows the usable portions of the existing assembly to remain in service rather than replacing everything because of one unavailable component.
Parts for Older Heavy Equipment
Older equipment can still perform valuable work, but obtaining replacement parts often becomes more difficult as models age. Parts may disappear from dealer inventory, manufacturers may consolidate part numbers, suppliers may discontinue production, and documentation may become harder to locate.
Iron Ax can work from existing components and equipment assemblies when complete factory documentation is not available. A worn or broken part may still contain enough information to begin the process, particularly when the mating components can also be inspected.
Imported and Specialized Equipment Parts
Imported, specialized, modified, and low-production equipment can create additional replacement-parts challenges. The original manufacturer may have limited United States support, shipping may involve long delays, or replacement components may not be readily identifiable through normal dealer channels.
Iron Ax can evaluate existing mechanical and hydraulic components from these machines and determine whether the required part is within our machining, fabrication, welding, or hydraulic manufacturing capabilities.
Obsolete Hydraulic Cylinder Parts
Hydraulic cylinders on older or specialized equipment may use rods, barrels, glands, pistons, clevises, mounts, rod eyes, and other components that are no longer available from the original manufacturer.
Iron Ax repairs, rebuilds, and manufactures hydraulic cylinders. Our in-house machine shop can manufacture hydraulic cylinder glands, pistons, chrome rods, and cylinder barrels, along with related pins, bushings, clevises, rod eyes, and mounting components.
When an obsolete cylinder cannot be economically repaired, we can also evaluate whether manufacturing a complete replacement hydraulic cylinder is practical.
Obsolete Equipment Pins and Bushings
Pins and bushings are among the components that can become difficult to obtain on older equipment. A machine may use a specific diameter, length, shoulder, retaining system, lubrication arrangement, bushing configuration, or mounting geometry that is no longer stocked.
Iron Ax can manufacture custom replacement equipment pins and bushings using the old components, mating parts, drawings, dimensions, and available machine information.
If years of pin-and-bushing wear have also damaged the supporting bore, Iron Ax can evaluate the component for bore restoration, welding, machining, and line boring as part of the same repair.
Obsolete Brackets, Mounts, and Fabricated Components
Older equipment may use fabricated brackets, mounts, supports, linkage pieces, frames, guards, attachment components, and structural parts that are no longer available individually.
Iron Ax can evaluate these components for repair or replacement fabrication. The existing part may provide the basic dimensions, material thicknesses, hole locations, mounting positions, and overall geometry required to begin reproducing the component.
When precision mounting points, pins, bushings, shafts, sleeves, or bores are part of the assembly, the necessary machining can also be completed in-house.
Manufacturing From a Worn or Broken Original Part
The original component does not have to be in perfect condition to be useful. A worn, cracked, bent, or broken part may still provide important information about the original design.
Iron Ax can inspect the remaining features and compare them with the mating components to determine whether the original dimensions can be established with reasonable confidence. Drawings, photographs, manufacturer specifications, part numbers, and measurements can provide additional information when available.
When wear has changed critical dimensions, we do not simply duplicate the worn condition. The mating assembly must also be considered before a replacement part is manufactured.
When no reliable production drawing is available, learn more about how Iron Ax can evaluate the existing part and surrounding assembly through heavy equipment component reverse engineering .
Bring us the old part—even if it is broken. It may contain exactly the information we need to begin evaluating a replacement.
When the Original Part Is Missing
A missing original part makes the job more challenging, but it does not necessarily eliminate the possibility of manufacturing a replacement. The surrounding equipment may still establish the mounting dimensions, bore sizes, lengths, clearances, attachment points, and other information required to evaluate the component.
Equipment manuals, parts diagrams, photographs, drawings, manufacturer information, matching components from another location on the machine, and customer measurements may also help establish the requirements.
Repair the Original Part or Manufacture New?
Manufacturing a new component is not always the first or best answer. Some obsolete parts can be repaired more economically than they can be duplicated. A worn bore may be restored, a shaft may be replaced, a bracket may be rebuilt, a hydraulic cylinder may be repaired, or a damaged section may be fabricated without replacing the entire component.
In other situations, the original component may be too worn, cracked, bent, missing, or altered to make repair practical. Iron Ax can evaluate both approaches and discuss whether repairing the existing component or manufacturing a replacement appears to make more sense.

Equipment and Industries We Support
How We Evaluate an Obsolete Part
1. Inspect What Is Available
We inspect the old part, broken pieces, mating components, assembly, drawings, photographs, and equipment information available.
2. Determine the Function
We evaluate how the component mounts, moves, carries load, connects to other parts, and functions within the equipment.
3. Establish Dimensions
Dimensions are determined from the original part, mating components, drawings, specifications, or other available information.
4. Evaluate Repair vs. Replacement
We determine whether repairing the original component or manufacturing a replacement appears to be the more practical approach.
5. Manufacture or Fabricate
Machining, welding, fabrication, hydraulic cylinder work, and related manufacturing can be completed as required.
6. Check the Assembly
When mating components are available, fit, alignment, dimensions, clearance, and movement can be checked as part of the completed project.
What to Bring or Tell Us
Not Every Part Can or Should Be Reproduced
Some components require specialized materials, heat treatment, coatings, manufacturing processes, certifications, tolerances, or engineering information that may make in-house reproduction impractical. Other parts may be available from the OEM at a cost that makes manufacturing a replacement unnecessary.
Iron Ax evaluates these projects individually. Our goal is to determine whether repair, fabrication, machining, hydraulic component manufacturing, or replacement provides a practical solution for the equipment owner.
Bring the Problem to Iron Ax
An unavailable equipment part does not always require replacing an entire machine or assembly. Iron Ax has machining, fabrication, welding, line boring, hydraulic cylinder repair, and component manufacturing capabilities under one roof.
Bring us the old part, damaged assembly, drawings, photographs, measurements, or equipment information. We can inspect what you have and determine whether the component can be repaired, duplicated, modified, or manufactured new.
