Tractor Hydraulic Cylinder Repair

Iron Ax provides tractor hydraulic cylinder repair, rebuilding, repacking, machining, and replacement component manufacturing for farmers and agricultural equipment owners throughout Georgia and the surrounding Southeast.

We repair hydraulic cylinders used on tractor loaders, buckets, steering systems, backhoe attachments, grapples, agricultural attachments, and other tractor-mounted equipment. Whether the cylinder simply needs new seals or has a bent rod, damaged barrel, worn gland, broken mounting end, or other mechanical damage, Iron Ax has the in-house capabilities to evaluate and repair the complete cylinder.

Unlike a shop limited to hydraulic cylinder repacking, Iron Ax combines hydraulic repair with an in-house machine shop, welding department, and fabrication facility. We can manufacture many rods, barrels, glands, pistons, pins, bushings, clevises, and other components needed to complete difficult tractor cylinder repairs.

Tractor Loader Hydraulic Cylinder Repair

Front-end loaders are one of the most common hydraulic applications on farm tractors. Loader cylinders raise and lower the loader arms while bucket cylinders control tilt, dump, and curl functions. These cylinders routinely handle heavy loads and are exposed to dirt, dust, weather, impact, and side loading.

A loader cylinder problem may cause the loader to drift down, the bucket to lose its position, hydraulic oil to leak around the rod, or the attachment to lose lifting or breakout force. Iron Ax can disassemble and inspect the cylinder to determine whether the problem is caused by worn seals, a damaged rod, worn barrel, gland damage, piston problems, or another mechanical failure.

Tractor Hydraulic Cylinders We Repair

Tractors and tractor-mounted equipment can use hydraulic cylinders for many different functions. Iron Ax can evaluate and repair cylinders used in applications such as:

Loader Lift Cylinders
Bucket Tilt Cylinders
Bucket Curl Cylinders
Steering Cylinders
Backhoe Attachment Cylinders
Grapple Cylinders
Blade & Attachment Cylinders
Other Tractor-Mounted Cylinders

Common Tractor Hydraulic Cylinder Problems

✓ Hydraulic oil leaking around the rod
✓ Loader or bucket drifting
✓ Loss of lifting force
✓ Internal seal bypassing
✓ Bent hydraulic cylinder rods
✓ Scratched or pitted chrome rods
✓ Worn or scored cylinder barrels
✓ Damaged glands or pistons
✓ Broken rod eyes or clevises
✓ Damaged mounting ends
✓ Worn pins and bushings
✓ Corrosion and rust damage
✓ Damaged threads
✓ Hard-to-find replacement components

Bent or Damaged Tractor Cylinder Rods

A bent or damaged hydraulic cylinder rod is common on loaders and other tractor attachments. Heavy loads, impacts, side loading, damaged mounting points, or improper operation can bend the rod or damage the chrome surface.

Even relatively minor rod damage can destroy new seals and cause repeated hydraulic leaks. If the chrome rod is bent, deeply scratched, pitted, rusted, or otherwise damaged, replacing the rod may be necessary for a dependable repair.

Iron Ax stocks chrome rod material and can manufacture replacement hydraulic cylinder rods in-house. Our machine shop can reproduce threads, shoulders, grooves, rod ends, and other features needed to replace the damaged component.

More Than a Tractor Cylinder Repack

Some tractor hydraulic cylinders only need new seals. Others have damage that a basic repack will not correct.

If a cylinder is leaking because the rod is damaged, the barrel is scored, the gland is worn, or the piston has failed, simply installing new seals may result in another failure. Iron Ax inspects the complete cylinder so the underlying problem can be identified.

Depending on the condition of the cylinder, the repair may involve new seals, rod replacement, barrel work, gland or piston machining, welding, mounting-end repair, or manufacturing replacement components.

In-House Machining for Tractor Hydraulic Cylinders

One of Iron Ax’s biggest advantages is our ability to perform hydraulic repair, machining, welding, and fabrication under one roof.

Our dedicated hydraulic cylinder service center includes a 26-foot cylinder repair bench, specialized tooling, and equipment capable of producing up to 40,000 lb-ft of torque. Our full-service machine shop allows us to manufacture hydraulic cylinder glands, pistons, chrome rods, barrels, pins, bushings, and other components in-house.

That capability becomes especially important when repairing an older tractor cylinder or a cylinder for which replacement components are unavailable, expensive, or backordered.

Older Tractor Hydraulic Cylinders

Many tractors remain productive for decades. The tractor may still perform its job every day even though certain hydraulic components are no longer readily available from the original manufacturer.

If an OEM replacement tractor cylinder is discontinued, difficult to locate, or excessively expensive, bring the original cylinder to Iron Ax. We can inspect it and determine whether the existing cylinder can be rebuilt or whether damaged components can be manufactured.

When rebuilding the original cylinder is not practical, Iron Ax can also evaluate certain applications for Custom Hydraulic Cylinder Manufacturing .

Hydraulic Hoses for Tractors and Farm Equipment

A tractor hydraulic problem is not always limited to the cylinder. Loader hoses, steering hoses, implement hoses, and attachment hoses are also exposed to abrasion, weather, flexing, pressure, and physical damage.

Iron Ax manufactures replacement hydraulic hose assemblies for tractors, farm equipment, construction machinery, and other hydraulic applications. If you are bringing in a tractor cylinder and also have a damaged hydraulic hose, bring the hose with you.

Agricultural Hydraulic Cylinder Repair

Tractor cylinders are only part of the agricultural hydraulic work performed at Iron Ax. We also repair cylinders from farm implements, hay equipment, tillage equipment, planting equipment, mowers, sprayers, loaders, and other agricultural machinery.
