Contract Fabrication for Water & Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers

Iron Ax provides build-to-print contract fabrication and machining services for water and wastewater equipment manufacturers. We work from customer-supplied drawings, specifications, bills of material, and manufacturing requirements to produce fabricated components and assemblies for OEM equipment.

Iron Ax does not need to design the customer’s treatment process or proprietary equipment. Our role is manufacturing. When an equipment manufacturer has an engineered design ready for production, Iron Ax can evaluate the fabrication and machining package and determine whether the project is a good fit for our capabilities.

From fabricated frames and equipment skids to troughs, hoppers, conveyor structures, platforms, supports, machined components, and larger welded assemblies, Iron Ax is interested in supporting water and wastewater equipment manufacturers that need dependable U.S.-based manufacturing capacity.

Build-to-Print Fabrication for Water & Wastewater OEMs

Water and wastewater equipment manufacturers often require substantial fabricated metal components as part of their finished systems. Depending on the equipment, these components may include structural frames, troughs, chutes, hoppers, equipment bases, conveyor structures, platforms, guards, supports, shafts, pins, bushings, and other machined or welded assemblies.

Iron Ax can serve as an outside manufacturing resource for OEMs that need additional production capacity without adding permanent floor space, machinery, or employees.

Projects can be evaluated individually based on the supplied drawings, materials, welding requirements, dimensional requirements, finishes, inspection requirements, quantities, and delivery schedule.

Fabrication for Screening and Headworks Equipment

Screening and headworks systems can involve a wide range of fabricated assemblies used to support, contain, transport, or process material removed from the wastewater stream.

Iron Ax can evaluate customer-supplied fabrication packages for items such as equipment frames, troughs, chutes, conveyor structures, guards, supports, mounting brackets, platforms, and related machined components.

For OEMs that manufacture screening and headworks equipment, Iron Ax can provide additional fabrication capacity while the OEM retains responsibility for equipment design, process performance, engineering, and final system specifications.

Fabrication for Conveying and Solids-Handling Equipment

Material-handling equipment used in water and wastewater applications often requires fabricated structural and mechanical components that are well suited to build-to-print manufacturing.

Projects may include conveyor structures, troughs, equipment supports, bases, hoppers, discharge chutes, guards, bearing supports, machined shafts, pins, sleeves, hubs, and related welded assemblies.

Iron Ax’s combination of fabrication and machining allows many of these components to be produced within the same manufacturing operation.

Fabrication for Clarification and Treatment Equipment

Clarification, settling, filtration, and other treatment systems can include substantial fabricated structures and mechanical assemblies.

Iron Ax can evaluate build-to-print projects involving equipment frames, platforms, supports, structural components, skids, bases, mounting structures, fabricated assemblies, and machined components associated with water and wastewater treatment equipment.

All projects are reviewed based on the customer’s approved engineering and manufacturing requirements.

Fabrication for Sludge and Biosolids Equipment

Sludge-handling and biosolids equipment frequently incorporates substantial welded structures, supports, troughs, chutes, conveyor components, skids, bases, platforms, and other fabricated assemblies.

Iron Ax is interested in evaluating OEM fabrication packages for these types of components, particularly where customers need additional manufacturing capacity or an alternate qualified fabrication source.

Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel Projects

Many water and wastewater applications involve stainless steel because of corrosion exposure, while other equipment components may be manufactured from carbon steel.

Iron Ax has extensive experience manufacturing heavy industrial equipment and fabricated assemblies from carbon steel. We are also interested in evaluating stainless steel projects where the customer’s material, welding, finishing, inspection, and documentation requirements are a good fit for our capabilities.

Stainless steel projects are reviewed individually before quotation. Customers should provide the applicable stainless grade, material specifications, welding requirements, finish requirements, inspection requirements, and documentation requirements with the RFQ package.

Fabrication and Machining Under One Roof

Water and wastewater equipment often requires both fabricated and machined components. A welded frame or conveyor assembly may also require shafts, pins, bushings, sleeves, bearing supports, hubs, bored components, or accurately located machined features.

Iron Ax combines fabrication and machining capabilities within the same manufacturing facility, reducing the need for customers to coordinate multiple outside vendors.

Our in-house machine shop can manufacture many related components, including:

✓Shafts
✓Pins
✓Bushings
✓Sleeves
✓Spacers
✓Hubs
✓Bearing-related components
✓Machined weldments
✓Mounting components
✓Custom OEM components

Heavy Fabrication Capacity

Iron Ax operates an approximately 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Wadley, Georgia with the space and material-handling capability required for substantial industrial fabrication.

Our facility includes multiple overhead cranes, large roll-up doors, fabrication areas, plasma cutting capability, and an in-house machine shop. This allows Iron Ax to receive raw material, fabricate larger assemblies, perform related machining operations, and prepare finished components or equipment for shipment.

For water and wastewater equipment manufacturers, this gives Iron Ax the ability to evaluate more than small individual parts. We are interested in projects ranging from individual components to substantial fabricated assemblies.

Overflow Manufacturing Capacity

Production demand does not always match available manufacturing capacity. A large order, backlog, labor shortage, schedule change, or unusually large project can quickly consume the available production capacity of an equipment manufacturer or its existing suppliers.

Iron Ax is interested in serving as an additional build-to-print fabrication source for water and wastewater OEMs that need overflow manufacturing capacity.

This may involve a single project, a selected group of assemblies, temporary overflow work, or an ongoing relationship where Iron Ax manufactures specific products or components from customer-supplied drawings.

Our goal is to become a dependable manufacturing resource that OEM customers can call when they need additional fabrication and machining capacity.

Second-Source and Alternate Supplier Capacity

Equipment manufacturers may choose to maintain more than one fabrication source for important products or assemblies. An additional qualified supplier can help reduce production risk, provide additional capacity, support geographic needs, or provide an alternative when another supplier is fully loaded.

Iron Ax welcomes opportunities to be evaluated as a second source or additional fabrication supplier for customer-designed equipment and components.

Customer-Supplied Drawings and Specifications

Iron Ax performs build-to-print manufacturing based on the information supplied by the customer.

A typical RFQ package may include:

✓Fabrication drawings
✓Machining drawings
✓Assembly drawings
✓Bill of materials
✓Material specifications
✓Welding requirements
✓Dimensional tolerances
✓Surface-finish requirements
✓Inspection requirements
✓Documentation requirements
